According to reports, global almond production is expected to grow by 6% to a record 1.3 million tons. The main suppliers are the United States, Australia, and EU countries. World consumption will also increase, according to some forecasts, to 1.2 million tons. Export, in turn, will grow by 4% to a record 766 thousand tons due to deliveries to the EU countries, China and India.
US production is planned to increase by 5% to 1 million tons. At the same time, the yield will slightly decrease, although the expansion of areas will continue. Flowering gardens lasted due to low temperatures and heavy rainfall. The rain had a positive effect on the condition of the trees after the drought, but the maintenance of the gardens was much more difficult. Almond exports from the United States account for two-thirds of production, and it is expected to grow by 4% to a record 675 thousand tons while expanding supplies to the EU and India. Volumes in warehouses will increase to 183 thousand tons.
Production in Australia will grow by almost 10% to a record of 90 thousand tons with an increase in area and yield. Most almond orchards are located in the Riverina area of New South Wales, Victoria, and in the areas of Riverland and Adelaide. Exports will grow by 9% to 60 thousand tons due to demand from leading EU and Indian markets.
The volume of production in the EU countries will increase by 13% to 103 thousand tons with the expansion of plantings in Spain and Italy. Demand growth will be 3%, which is about 300 thousand tons. Most of the demand is generated by the confectionery industry, where nuts are used as an ingredient.
According to forecasts, imports will grow by 8% and reach 95 thousand tons due to an increase in the middle class. Peaks in demand are from September to January, when producers use more almonds in a wide range of product categories, such as snacks, snacks, drinks, and pastries.
The growing demand for “healthy snack” will increase the import of nuts by 7%, by more than 100 thousand tons. According to studies, Chinese consumers aged 19 to 35 years monitor their health benefits and lead a more active lifestyle, and therefore prefer snacks with natural ingredients, including almonds and other nuts.
